April was a busy month I was out of the town for almost 2 weeks. Christian, M and I went to Shanghai for a week together. This first trip was quite exhausting but I found it kinda fun to spend time with Christian 24×7 for a week. Christian wasn’t bothered by the cabin pressure at all. He slept for an hour and played a little bit.
Though he still can’t crawl, he likes to bounce up and down with adult support. The bouncer has become a favorite and I think it’s a great buy for babies.
Today Christian’s teeth are finally coming out. I saw 2 lower teeth just growing out of the gum. Time to get a tooth brush.
He’s 7 months old!

Christian: My teeth are coming out. Nothing I can do.

It’s quite confusing when it comes to weaning a baby. Right now I am following Annabel Karmel’s baby meal planner but it doesn’t tell you how much solid to give a baby. For example, it says “for lunch, give bottle and baby rice. How much baby rice then? What I do is to give him half the milk, feed him solid and let him stop on his own, then give the rest of the milk if he still wants to drink. Normally he wouldn’t be able to finish the rest of the milk and today he refused the 3oz remaining milk after he had 3 oz of milk + 1 oz baby rice mixed with 2 tbs of apple puree. At least he knows when to stop eating haha.
How to mix baby rice:
1-3 tsp breast milk or formula milk
1 tsp baby rice
Recently Christian loves to make sounds by banging his hands on different surfaces. It gives him a sense of control over the environment because he knows certain sounds can be made by banging on things. He loves to sit on my laps and hit the wooden table in the kitchen over and over.
Other things he enjoys doing:
- Turning the plastic wheels of a toy
- Playing with my mobile phone
- Turning his body to make frog-like movement
- Me holding him and dance to the music
- Flying
- Looking at picture books
- Looking at the cirque de soleil mobile
- Chewing stuff
His favorite food are banana and carrot so far, and he doesn’t like papaya or pumpkin though he still eats a little.

Christian turned 6 months old and got his first taste of baby rice. I gave him the solid after his 3pm feed. He made a funny expression when I gave him the first spoon of solid. The next was easy because he opened his mouth when the spoon was close to his face. Can’t wait to take the next bite! Today I will give him carrot puree let see if he’ll like it just as much.
Christian’s very first taste of solid.

Christian: What’s that in my mouth? eeeeeeeeeeee…

Very receptive to the new texture after his first bite.

Yummy!

I’ve been searching for a bouncer for Christian and finally found the one I liked. When Christian tried it out for the first time he looked curious and cautious, then he slowly figured out how to bounce and was amused by the new movement. He’s such a happy baby and his presence brings me so much joy. I love to observe him. It’s interesting to watch his response in every new situation and experience. He’s going to be 6 months old very soon and I secretly hope that he doesn’t grow up so fast.

It’s been almost a month since the last post coz I’ve been slacking a bit. Fortunately I still take pictures for Christian almost daily to capture all the precious moments. His coordination is evidently more coordinated, and now he’s at a stage in which he grows wary of strangers and starts crying when someone approaches him. However there was an exception. When Ms. Yu and Christian first met she talked to him, and he looked at her and began to babble for a long time. He also let Ms. Yu hold him. Another interesting thing is the different reactions he has towards me and M. He smiles everytime he sees me but doesn’t babble right away, and does the opposite towards M.
Recent “words”: mum mum mum mum mum…. and bei bei bei bei bei bei…

He likes to grab his stinky feet.

so focused…

Sitting without aid for a few seconds.

He likes to sit in this thing.

Besides chewing and shaking his toys, he also began to examine them.

What a fiesty biter!

Why the title joy? Because I wanna let Christian know that he fills my heart with joy everyday!
New trick: Turning to the side
2 days ago I tried to lure Christian to turn his body by waving a toy on the side. He tried very hard to turn by kicking his feet and moving his arms and almost made it. Yesterday he managed to turn his body very fast over and over. Ever since he mastered this new trick he’s been turning his body all the time. He turned vigarously when I changed his diaper. I guess he found it real fun.

There are 3 cats in our home but they don’t get to roam freely because they wouldn’t stop peeing everywhere. Now they live happily in a room with cat tree and toys. Something strange happened when I showed Christian the room. He cried immediately once I opened the door before he even saw the cats. His crying became more fierce when he saw the cats. Today I thought I’d try again and he acted the same way. To find out what made him ticked I brought him to the kitchen and showed him one cat. At first he looked a bit uneasy but overcame the fear (?) very fast. Maybe he’s just scared of new places? I then took him to another room that he’s never been in before and he cried again. I wonder what distresses him? If he’s bothered by new places/environment he should act the same when we go out but he’s quite excited when we have outings.

Looks like Christian won’t be sleeping through the night after all. He’s been waking up at 12am and 4am every night for the past week. The weird thing is that he’s not hungry at 4am. Last night when he woke up he kept sticking out his tongue and made weird sound for 30 mins. He was still sleepy and cried but it seemed like he couldn’t fall asleep on his own. It took me one hour to put him back to sleep.
On Wednesday we went to the park with Joop and UC for picnic and kite flying. The weather was sunny and the air smelled crispy and fresh. Christian drifted into sleep really fast as we were strolling. When he woke up and looked up the sky his face was that of amazement because there were many kites flying above us. M came to join us later that day to fly the kite and we all had a great time.
Taking a stroll in the park.

Woke up after a 30 min nap.

New habit formed: Lip biting
Result: Redness on his chin due to constant biting. Maybe this is his new way of self comfort. The redness is now under control thanks to the Physiogel AI cream that he’s been using. I put this cream on his chin when he’s asleep so he wouldn’t eat the stuff off.
